The phantom contains a thin plane of echogenic material embeddedina non-echoic rubber-based tissue-mimicking matrix. Model 538N-Hhastwo scan planes. The scattering plane is oriented at 45° toonescan plane and perpendicular to the other.
The beam profile is easily displayed at varying depths, andcontainsa great deal of information regarding the configuration ofthe soundbeam as it propagates through the tissue-mimicking media.The beamprofile clearly displays the near field, focal length,focal zone,beam width, side and grating lobes and beam divergencein the farfield. In addition, amplitude variations in the nearfield aredisplayed as varying degrees of brightness versus thealmosthomogeneity of the amplitude in the far field.
The Model 538N-H provides a means of evaluating the slicethicknessof an imaging system at varying depths. Slice thicknessorelevational resolution, the third component of spatialresolution,displays reflections produced by structures in front ofor behindthe beam’s main axis. The effect of changes in the slicethicknessis identical to those seen with axial and lateralresolution. Thethinner the slice thickness the better theresolution; as the slicethickness increases, the degree of spatialresolution decreases.Lifetime warranty.
