General description:
Fluorescent inspection lamps have been widely used in fluorescent penetrant inspection and fluorescent magnetic particle inspection. In testing the luminosity of fluorescent detection lamps, we often mention white light and leaking white light. What is white light? What is the leakage of light? These two terms are explained below, hoping to help users who are not very clear about meaning of white light and leaking white light.
In the design of the magnetic particle flaw detector program and infiltration program design:
Case 1:The dark room is composed of a steel structure, special dark room fabric, a white light illumination system, and cooling fan. The white light illumination is required be less than 20 Lux.
Analysis :The white light mentioned here refers to the ambient light. That is, the detection environment must remain dark. When operator enter the dark room, the operator needs to have a 30S adaptation time before the flaw detection work.
Case 2:When black magnetic powder is flawed, white light requires≥1000 lux.
Analysis :The white light mentioned here also refers to ambient light. If the white light intensity of the workshop is not enough, an LED white inspection lamp with an illumination of ≥1000 lux can be used for observation.
Case 3:In the fluorescent magnetic flaw detector program or fluorescent penetrant flaw detection program will be designed in this way: Adapting portable UV LED lamps, Model type:FiNDT-6000, the wavelength focuses on 365-370nm,the center wavelength is 365nm. The intensity is about 6000μw/cm2 at 380mm and the visible light is less than 5Lux
Analysis :The white light here refers to the leakage of white light, which is the white light component contained in the UV lamp.
Case 4: Analyze the inconsistency of leaked white light between the manufacturer and the user. See below:

Tips |
The overall shape of the spot can be seen with the naked eye using A4 paper; however, when testing for leaking white light, the lamp should not be irradiated on A4 paper. Because the white color of A4 paper will excite the white light component in the fluorescent lamp, it will cause the leakage of white light to increase dramatically. |
However, when we send this lamps to aerospace industry and find that leaking white intensity is above 2.8Lux,please see the below photo:
UV intensity at 380mm distance |
Leaking white light at 380mm distance |
Coverage area(At380mm)≥1000μw/cm2 |
Spot uniformity |
4517μw/cm2 |
17.5Lux |
450*220mm |

The detector has fluorescent composition
Having fluorescent composition of the detector will increase leaking white light intensity. Therefore, we suggest that users test the UV/white intensity and keep the XRP-3000 detector clean.
